Views of the Israeli Desert
I worked on the mosaic panel project "Views of the Israeli Desert" for a men's monastery located 70 kilometers from Kyiv from 2018 to 2022. This project includes four wall panels measuring 3.5x1.1 meters each, situated in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - a replica of the famous Jerusalem church also known as the Church of the Resurrection. The mosaics depict a desert landscape with a date palm in the foreground and sand dunes on the horizon, immersing the temple visitors in the hot reality of the Israeli desert: the scent of hot sand, the song of the hot desert wind, and the scorching sun overhead. These are the places where Christian history begins its journey.
I used amber as fruits for the date palm, symbolizing fertility and abundance.
The work on each panel took from 3 to 4 months. Upon completion, it was cut into sections and transported to the church for subsequent assembly.
